Italian King

Fabiano Caruana becomes Grandmaster at age 15

One of the first articles on Chessdom.com was Fabiano Caruana’s profile in Young Lions section. It wasn’t hard to spot the trend and give it convenient title – “The future Italian star”. Still, his progress over the last year was stunning, exactly 100 rating points plus some in the reserve.

Caruana family made the right move when they decided to settle in Budapest and have Fabiano play in all First Saturday tournaments. He did so in March and April, earning the 2nd GM norm. In May he led Italian team at the Mitropa Cup and later participated in Porto Mannu 2007 and some other tournaments. July saw him again in the Hungarian Chess Federation headquarters to convincingly score his 3rd and final GM norm. Congratulations!
