First Latin American player reaching 2700 FIDE points
Leinier Dominguez
Cuban Grandmaster Leinier Dominguez, undefeated in Sarajevo, scored two wins and eight draws to finish second with six points behind Russian GM Alexander Morozevich “third in the world ranking with 2,774 ELO”, who accumulated 7.5 units.
Leinier Dominguez added ten points to his ELO rating with his performance in the Masters Tournament in Sarajevo, thus becoming the first Latin American player with an ELO above 2,700. He also earned 2.5 ELO points after winning the 2008 Capablanca Memorial few weeks ago.
