Levon Aronian Skips Astrakhan Grand Prix

The 6th tournament of the Grand Prix will be held in Astrakhan in May

"As is well known, Armenian GM Levon Aronian has already won the FIDE Grand Prix, regardless of the results of the last, the 6th stage of this event. On this occasion Aronian and Armenian Chess Federation applied to the FIDE, suggesting that the Armenian chess player doesn't take part in the 6th tournament of the Grand Prix to be held in Astrakhan, Russia in May, 2010. FIDE has confirmed. Aronian can now concentrate on the preparation and participation in other big events." Source - Armenia Chess Federation.

Next big challenge for Levon Aronian will be the 6-player super-tournament in Linares, which is starting on 12th February.
